EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Kids learned to ski for free Saturday at the Mt. Washington Nordic Ski Complex for the Flying Eagles’ annual open house.

With help from the Eau Claire City County Health Department, the Flying Eagles Ski Club invited families to the hills once again, only this year’s event was an open air open house to follow social distancing guidelines and kept the event mostly outside. Community members were able to try on skis and attempt a few runs with help from volunteer instructors.

Parent volunteer, Holli Jacobson told WEAU,

“I think it’s a great experience for people. I think having a winter sport and activity is important to keep people happy and being outside during the winter is important so I hope more people can get excited about our club and check it out. It’s a rewarding experience for any kid or family that is interested.”

The ski center has been busy making snow since not much has fallen so far this winter, and they hope to start jumping in the coming weeks.
