Rice Lake woman taken into custody after vehicle chase, report of stolen van

BARRON COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) - A Rice Lake woman was taken into custody on June 2 after officials were notified of a report that a vehicle had been stolen.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says Samantha Smith, 37, was taken into custody without an incident. Officials were searching for a grey van that had been reported stolen. The vehicle was later located heading north on County Road SS.

When officials attempted to stop the vehicle, a chase started. Stop sticks were used, which caused the vehicle to lose air in both front fires. A PIT maneuver was used by a Barron County deputy, which ended the chase.

The deputy’s vehicle had minor bumper damage.
