Decomposing body found in Rice Lake home, no foul play found
RICE LAKE, Wis. (WEAU) - A body in the later stage of decomposing was found in a Rice Lake home after neighbors reported a strong odor coming from within the house.
The Rice Lake Police Department and the Barron County District Attorney’s Office says officials were dispatched to a house on Reuter Avenue for a welfare check on Monday.
Officials obtained a search warrant and entered the house to find a deceased individual. His wife was reportedly extremely intoxicated and told officers that the individual was sleeping.
The body was noted to be in a later stage of decomposition and he had been dead for a “lengthy” amount of time.
The autopsy reported no signs of foul play and the cause of death is still pending. There were no apparent injuries to his body either.
Law enforcement note that no criminal charges will be filed against the wife and there are no suspicious circumstances regarding his death. The wife had convinced herself that he was sleeping. Officials did note her level of intoxication and concerns about being able to care for herself.
