No injuries from duplex fire in La Crosse Wednesday

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) - A structure fire in La Crosse Wednesday evening resulted in no deaths or injuries.

The fire, which occurred at 1117 11th Street South, near Powell Park south of Mayo Clinic Health Systems in La Crosse, was in the attic of a duplex, according to the La Crosse Fire Department. Responding crews were dispatched at approximately 6:45 p.m. and put out the fire quickly, according to a release from the LCFD.

Residents from the downstairs apartment evacuated when neighbors spotted the fire. No one was home in the upstairs apartment at the time of the fire, but a dog was in the apartment. The dog was carried out by the LCFD and reunited with its owners.

15 members of the La Crosse and Holmen fire departments were on hand to contain the fire. The LCFD also credits the La Crosse Police Department, Tri-State Ambulance, and Xcel Energy with assistance. Damage to the duplex is considered moderate due to fire and smoke, according to the LCFD. The incident is under investigation.
