Boy, 8, critically injured after statue falls at resort

PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) - A boy in Arizona is fighting for his life after a statue seemingly fell on him at an upscale resort in Phoenix Wednesday morning.

Phoenix firefighters said they were called around 9 a.m. to the Arizona Biltmore resort for reports of an injured child.

Fire Capt. Todd Keller confirmed an 8-year-old child was struck by a concrete object.

Video from the scene showed a statue had fallen onto the ground.

First responders rushed the child to an area hospital in critical condition. It’s unclear whether a parent or guardian was watching him at the time of the incident.

Aerial footage showed crime scene tape around a portion of the hotel as debris was scattered around a resort lawn.

“Our top priority is the safety of our guests, and our thoughts are with the family impacted by today’s events,” the resort said in a prepared statement.

Phoenix fire officials are working to learn what caused the statue to fall.
