PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) — A man died after he was rescued from a Phoenix mountain hiking trail earlier this week.

Technical rescue teams from Phoenix and Tempe were called to Camelback Mountain’s Echo Canyon Trailhead for reports of a hiker experiencing a medical emergency.

Crews ascended the trail and found the victim with family members near the summit.

He was reported as unconscious and not breathing.

A Phoenix police/fire helicopter was requested, and the man was airlifted to an ambulance at the mountain’s base.

He was then rushed to a hospital in extremely critical condition.

On Tuesday, a Phoenix Fire spokesperson confirmed the man has since died. His name has not been released.
