QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (KPHO/Gray News) — Authorities in Arizona say a driver speeding in a sports car started a deadly chain-reaction crash last Friday night.

According to Queen Creek police, 20-year-old Kyle Campbell was behind the wheel of a vehicle that was going more than 130 mph before crashing near the intersection of Riggs and Ellsworth roads.

Because of the impact, Campbell’s car went into the westbound lanes and smashed head-on into a sedan.

Campbell died at the scene.

The driver of the sedan, 25-year-old Eduardo Chavez Diaz, was pulled from the wreckage but didn’t survive his injuries.

A woman and two children, who were also in the sedan, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police said the children were secured in child seats.

The driver of another car involved in the crash suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized.

Police expressed their condolences to those lost in the collision.

“These incidents are profoundly significant and deeply impact families, friends, and our community,” Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice said. “While the investigation remains ongoing, tragedies such as this serve as a reminder that the decisions we make behind the wheel can have life-altering and irreversible consequences.”
