PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) — Three people were injured after a plane went down in a north Phoenix neighborhood early Wednesday morning.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, just before 7:30 a.m., a Piper PA-28 crashed on its way back to Deer Valley Airport.

Two people were on board the plane at the time of the crash.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Todd Keller said the pilot instructor and student were hospitalized in stable condition, suffering minor cuts and burns.

“It hit two houses. Fortunately, everyone was OK. It is a miracle that no one was [seriously] injured,” Capt. Keller explained.

A homeowner was also sent to the hospital as a precaution, with no firefighters injured during the response.

The plane could be seen with its nose down in the backyard of a home following the crash. Two homes sustained damage, and debris was scattered around. A piece of the aircraft was also on a roof.

Details remain limited as to what led up to the crash, as investigators were still working to canvass the scene.

Capt. Keller said the FAA will be taking over the investigation.

The American Red Cross disaster action teams were working with the families impacted.
