Chippewa Valley Miracle League kicked off 10th baseball season
LAKE HALLIE, Wis. (WEAU) - Kids of all abilities kicked off their baseball season Monday night with the Chippewa Valley Miracle League.
The league offers organized and accessible baseball for people aged four to 19 with disabilities.
This year marks a special milestone on the diamond - a full decade of league play.
The program has grown from 69 kids in its first season to 203 now. Program leader Amy Standiford says that’s been the goal - increasing numbers and improving the program.
A new partnership with Valley Sports Academy is making that goal easier, giving kids a place to play when, like Monday, mother nature wasn’t cooperating.
“We don’t have to cancel any games this summer, we get to play all of them, and we only have seven weeks of games. So, kids are excited that they get to try something new. We are excited, but we are also learning right alongside the kids this year with this experience,” said Standiford.
Miracle League is always welcoming volunteers to come join the fun. Standiford says her favorite thing about the league is that her whole family gets involved. Her husband is an ump and her kids are coaches.
