RICE LAKE, Wis. (WEAU) - The community will honor the memory of two officers killed in the line of duty at the 3rd Annual Fallen Hero Memorial Trap Shoot next weekend.

Chetek Police Officer Emily Breidenbach and Cameron Police Officer Hunter Scheel were killed during a traffic stop in Barron County in 2023.

Blue Hills Sportsmen’s Club is hosting the event, which has raised nearly $20,000 since it began. The funds have been donated to the Cameron and Chetek police departments and the nonprofits Concerns for Police Survivors and Law Enforcement Death Response Team.

Scholarship established for area youth

This year the money will go toward a scholarship established in Breidenbach and Scheel’s names for area youth who wish to pursue careers in law enforcement, EMS or teaching.

“It honors both Emily and Hunter and to promote the fields of law enforcement, because it is a very difficult career to take on, as well as EMS and even teaching,” said Tim Chaussee, chairman of the board of directors for the club. “Once we found out, especially that Emily had a passion for teaching, it was very important that we wanted to honor that memory, something that she would have wanted to continue herself if she was still with us.”

Silent auction features custom rifle

The silent auction will feature a Henry Golden Boy 22 donated by UConn Arms. The receiver has Breidenbach and Scheel’s badges, and the serial number includes their badge numbers along with end of watch.

“So, there’ll never be another gun like this,” Chaussee said.

Registration includes two rounds of clay shooting, shells, food and entry for a door prize drawing. Individual shooter registration is $50 per person, and individuals will be placed in groups. Team registration for a five-person squad is $250, or $50 per person.

Pre-registration is required. To register, email bluehillssportsmensclub@gmail.com or call Tim at 715-933-0125 or Greg at 715-828-1182.

Last year nearly 20 teams participated, with 100 people who came to watch and support the event.

The opening ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 27.
