Lost dog finds new home in Durand
DURAND, Wis. (WEAU) - You’ve all probably had a Christmas wish that wasn’t fulfilled. In Durand, the Myers children asked for a dog for Christmas, but they didn’t get one. However, months later, a special dog found them.
The Myers family has a new pet named Miles.
“He really likes to play outside and run,” Arri Myers said.
“When we play blitzball in the yard, he’ll get the ball for us and bring it back to us,” Fletcher Myers said.
But the way Miles joined this family is what makes their story special. In late July, the Myers heard a dog had escaped its new owners and jumped in to help.
“We got really close to it the first day,” Arri said.
“It started coming a little bit closer, but then it heard the four-wheeler, so it ran away,” Fletcher said. But the dog kept coming back.
“Every night for some reason, this dog would always come to our house. Don’t know why,” Trevor Myers, the kids’ dad, said. “They either got the food that the kids put out or water. I don’t know why; it’s crazy.”
Eventually, on the seventh day of searching, the Myers family had a win.
“We saw it in the garage, and then we started jumping up and down,” Fletcher said.
“Watching the kids, determination, hard work pays off, it’s pretty cool,” Trevor said.
It paid off in more than one way. The kids helped rescue a young dog on the run, and the previous owners, after some pleading from the Myers family, told them they could keep the dog. The kids named him Miles.
“The kids were coming up with names for a few days, and then they thought Miles because of how many miles they chased this dog,” Trevor said.
The Myers family wasn’t planning on getting a new dog, but the determination the kids displayed made Trevor and his wife rethink that decision.
“Watching them chase a dog down daily and caring about it so much, I think eventually it grew on my wife and I to go, well, I guess we’ll give in to the kids and get another dog,” Trevor said.
So after several days and miles, the Myers family’s new companion seems to have chosen them.
Miles has been living with the family for more than two weeks now. The Myers said he seems very comfortable and happy in his new home.
