Emily Davies

Emily Davies began her career at NewsChannel 7 in 2013 and has worked in several positions since then including producer, reporter, and anchor. She helped launch the 7 Investigates team in 2016, which has done award-winning work for the people of north-central Wisconsin.

Davies looks at journalism as a service to the community, protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Journalists are often referred to as the fourth estate, the watchdog on the government to provide accurate and truthful information, and Davies does not take that responsibility lightly. She got into the field to help shine a light on issues and stories kept in the dark whether purposely or unintentionally, as well as tell stories of communities and people not widely heard. She is passionate about helping people know and understand the communities they live in and to hold the government and those with power accountable for their actions or inactions.

She has won state and regional honors for her work, including awards for coverage of child sexual assault in north-central Wisconsin, the state's only youth prison, barriers in the civil court system for people in the Hmong community, dairy farm issues, drug trafficking, breaking news, election coverage, as well as feature stories like that of a veteran fixing up an old car. Davies has also been recognized by local agencies, including being honored with the Wisconsin Public Health Association's Excellence in Public Health Media Award in 2019 for her coverage of nitrate-contaminated water in central Wisconsin, as well as the Wausau Police Department's Journalistic Excellence Award in 2017, which stated she reported department efforts objectively. She has also been apart of the team as WSAW/WZAW-TV was honored with Station of the Year, News Operation of the year, and Social and Digital Media Operation of the year three years in a row from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.

Davies spent half of her life growing up in southern Wisconsin, Pewaukee specifically, and the other half in northern California's Bay Area before coming back to the dairy state and joining the WSAW team. She graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Northridge with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism with an emphasis in broadcast and a minor in psychology.

She is happy to call central Wisconsin one of her many homes after meeting her husband. Davies enjoys volunteering, exploring, traveling, learning new things, and meeting new people.

Davies wants to know what is impacting your life and how she can work to better serve north-central Wisconsin communities. Feedback, tips, story ideas, and conversation are welcomed through her email, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.
