Local municipalities are getting the word out about the 2020 Census.

You will receive an invitation by mail around March 12, and can reply in one of 3 ways

• Online

• By mail

• By telephone

The questionnaire contains 9 questions and is similar to the short form from the previous Census.

The information is used:

For redistricting and fair representation (from local level to the State Congressional Districts)

Allocation of Federal and State funds and programs

Public planning for roads, parks, schools, housing programs, etc.

Private section planning and market decisions

The Census Bureau stresses that the information is confidential and individual responses are not shared with anyone.

In fact, the Census Bureau employees are subject to penalties.

The data that is made available is only aggregated data.

Discuss general timetable:

March – April; self-response phase

May – July; Census enumerators

Information submitted to White House; January 1st

Redistricting – starting in May of 2021

Remainder of statistics – late 2021

Historically the Midwest has had very high census response rates and ten years ago, the State of Wisconsin ranked number one in the nation in response rates and Eau Claire was one of the top communities in the State.

Census jobs are still available.
