As part of Red Cross Month, we take a closer look at the program, Services to the Armed Forces.

Support to Wisconsin Military, Veterans and Families

The following programs are available to Wisconsin Military, veterans and their families. Red Cross is not limited to these programs and we are willing to review unusual requests, develop new programs and meet the need of the Military, veterans and their families.

EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS…The American Red Cross provides verified emergency messages to Services Members worldwide 24/7. Each message sent receives a family follow up call by Wisconsin volunteer staff to ensure the families are connected to their Service Member and their needs are met. Access:1-877-272-7337.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE…The American Red Cross acts as the representative for all military aid societies providing verification and transfer of funds 24/7. Access:1-877-272-7337.

GET TO KNOW US BEFORE YOU NEED US BRIEFINGS…Brief on Red Cross Services provided to the Military and their families.

COPING WITH DEPLOYMENTS…National course providing strategies in dealing with the stresses of deployment. Can be taken in small groups. It is available to all Military, veterans and their families to include extended and loved ones. The instructors are actively licensed and specifically trained Red Cross mental health professionals.

RECONNECTION WORKSHOPS…Seven small group workshops, which are free and confidential, designed to help families reconnect with Service Members and veterans. It is available to all Military, veterans and their families to include extended and loved ones. The instructors are actively licensed and specifically trained Red Cross mental health professionals. The workshop topics include:

o Communicating Clearly

o Exploring Stress and Trauma

o Identifying Depression

o Relating to Children

o Working through Anger

o Mind- Body

o Roger That! Communication Counts (for children and teens)

o Operation 10:4 Confident Coping (for children and teens)

YELLOW RIBBON EVENTS/HONOR FLIGHTS/SPECIAL EVENTS…Red Cross is committed to providing support along with information at all events.

INFORMATION AND REFERRAL…Red Cross partners with other support agencies ensuring quality referral for resources in Wisconsin available to them.

VA HOSPITALS AND HOMES…Red Cross plays an active role in supporting VA hospitals and homes with volunteers, events and programs that greatly improve the quality of life for our veterans.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES…Many opportunities exist to provide support to our Military, veterans and their families. All volunteers are background checked, screened and oriented before they are able to be a volunteer.

MILITARY, VETERAN AND THEIR FAMILIES PREPAREDNESS…Red Cross strives to keep our Military, veterans and families safe by implementing the Home Fire Campaign. Red Cross will visit, inspect and even install new smoke alarms free of charge in their homes. Red Cross will help educate all family members to develop and practice evacuation drills within the home and the development and use of emergency kits.
