ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU)- The Class 3 milk price ended 2018 with a thud. The official December price was $13.78 a hundred-down 66 cents from November and $1.66 less than last December. For the year, the Class 3 price averaged $14.61-compared to the 2017 average of $16.17.

It's now a done deal. Minnesota Congressman Colin Peterson has officially been selected to lead the House Agriculture Committee during this session of Congress. It's the second time Peterson has led the committee-first serving as chairman from 2007 to 2011.

Over in the Senate, current Agriculture Committee chairman, Senator pat Roberts of Kansas said he's had enough. Over the weekend Roberts decided he will not seek re-election to the Senate in 2020. He didn't give any specific reason for his decision. Observers say there should be no problem with Robert's seat staying in Republican hands since Kansas hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate since the 1930s.
The Department of Agriculture made it official yesterday. Because of the government shutdown, all those reports scheduled to come out in the next few days are being delayed. That includes the annual report on final crop production numbers from 2018, the World Agricultural Supply and Demand numbers and the update on current grain stocks.
Farmers have told pollsters from the Farm Journal they think President Trump is doing a good job. That latest poll shows 76% of farmers surveyed said the president is doing a good job while 21% say they don't like the job he is doing. The farmers say they like the idea of renegotiating long standing unfair trade practices with our trading partners around the world-they just wish he'd work faster to get commodity prices up.

Tomorrow is the first day of the 41st annual Lacrosse Farm Show at the Lacrosse Center. The show will run from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. both Wednesday and Thursday. Admission and entertainment is free both days.
