EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Local middle school students are getting a little extra help taking their learning outside the classroom.

Regis teacher Ellen Killian nominated the middle school in our monthly Schools Rule! contest.

She wrote to us saying Regis could use the money to take students on more field trips, like the they took to the Science Museum of Minnesota in Saint Paul.

Tuesday Gordy's Guru Matt Selvig and WEAU's Nikki Junewicz were thrilled to present Regis Middle School students with the $3,000 in Box Tops for Education, courtesy of General Mills.

"I think field trips are just a valuable experience, and as we've seen budget crunches affect schools, it's kind of a line item that's been reduced greatly, you just see great rewards opening their eyes to different atmospheres and environments," explains Killian.
