EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)- If you're looking for some winter fun with the family, Winter After Hours has started up at Pinehurst Park and this year, they're partnering up again with the city.
(VOLUME ONE) - Winter After Hours is an event produced by Volume One + Eau Claire Parks, Recreation & Forestry + Outdoor More with the help of Mayo and several other community sponsors. It started over 10 years ago and this is the second year at Pinehurst Park. It is held every Thursday night in January and February.
Winter After Hours is a FREE event to promote getting outside and being active during the winter months. Activities induced ice skating, sledding, hockey, cross country skiing, fat tire biking, and snowshoeing. Our sponsor Riverside Bike and Skate is on site every Thursday night to provide ice skate and snow shoe rentals. You can warm up with games in the warming house and with hot cocoa by the large fire pit.
There are special events throughout the season, like a fat tire bike race, cross country ski race, and a Winter Safety Day that Eau Claire Parks, Recreation and Forestry puts on. This event started 5 years ago with the main purpose of promoting helmet use while sledding. The Safety Day is on January 17th and in addition to the regular activities at Winter After Hours, there will be free s'mores, organized skating games, ski/snowboard helmet give-away, snowboarding, and Fire Truck and Ambulance tours.
