14th annual kids expo in Eau Claire keeps doors open during winter storm

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Many parents braved the weather to take their children to the 14th Annual Xcel Energy Kids Expo at the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center Sunday afternoon.

The event featured live performances, face painting, DJ entertainment, inflatables, games, prizes and much more family fun.

Despite the many local weekend cancellations, organizers said they would keep their doors open regardless of the circumstances.

“So many kids and families look forward to this special day that there was just no way we could take that away from them,” says Executive Director, Amy Peterson-Foss.

Organizers say they were expecting around 2,000 people total by the end of the event.

Organizers say they are pleased with the outcome of the event and are glad the weather didn’t stop families from enjoying their afternoon.

“My favorite part is just the family engagement,” says Peterson-Foss. “The big smiles on the way in and sometimes tears on the way out.”
