EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A celebration was held this afternoon, honoring the 100th anniversary of the American Legion Post 53.

The post has been in Eau Claire since they received their first charter in 19-19 after soldiers left France during World War I.
The post has about 700 members, 450 of them are veterans. Organizers say today's celebration also served as a fundraiser. The mission of the organization is to bring veterans, their families and the community together.

"Socializing is a big part of that and it is a way to get together and support each other," said Brad Venaas, Post Adjutant.

Dan Klein, Post Commander says funds collected throughout the year go out to various organizations in the community. Many businesses around the area donated items to be raffled off during the event.
