Annual Blue Mass celebrates law enforcement

ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) -- A special church service to thank all police officers, firefighters and EMTs who serve the Chippewa Valley took place at a local church Sunday.

The 4th Annual Blue Mass was held at St. Mary's Church in Altoona.
The service was sponsored by the Altoona Knights of Columbus as a way to say "thank you" to those first responders who put their lives at risk every day to help those in need.

Current and retired police officers, firefighters and EMTs were invited to the Blue Mass. Organizers said this service is the least they can do for the local first responders.

"I’ve got several friends and family that have been in law enforcement and it’s just something that I feel is necessary," said Miles Casey, Deputy for District 22 of the Knights of Columbus. "These guys put their lives on the line daily and we want to make sure they receive the appreciation that their due."

Organizers say approximately half a dozen first responders attended Sunday's Blue Mass service at St. Mary's.
