Annual Job Fair held with unemployment at low figure

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Close to 150 businesses and organizations gathered at the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center on Tuesday for the annual Business Expo and Job Fair.

More than 60 exhibitors were on hand for the job fair, recruiting for more than 160 different positions. The job fair was put on by the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce – and in a climate which many would think isn’t conducive for a job fair.

The latest unemployment rate for Eau Claire from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics is 3.5 percent. Becky Seelen with the Chamber of Commerce said, despite this low figure, they were happy to see the types of people coming in to look for a job.

"We know all of our exhibitors what's the unemployment rate is and they are looking for quality workers,” she said. “So I'm excited that people are coming out here and finding jobs because we know that our exhibitors are needing employees."
