Ben Loomis named to USA Nordic Combined Olympic team

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) A dream has come true for Eau Claire Native Ben Loomis as he will be going to Pyeongchang to compete for the Nordic Combined team in the Winter Olympics in February.

The 19-year old Loomis has been competing in Europe for the US Nordic Ski team this year and will joining Bryan Fletcher, who took the teams lone qualifying spot in Olympic trails in late December, as representatives for Team USA.

Loomis is no stranger to International competition, having won a silver medal at the 2016 Youth Olympics and also has won four junior national titles as well. His performance in 2016 earned him the USSA Male Athlete of the Year title. He will compete in his his fifth World Juniors Championship later this month before heading to Pyeongchang.

Loomis is also no stranger to Silver Mine Hill as he has competed there many times including last year and got his start jumping with the Eau Claire Flying Eagles.

The individual Nordic Combined Normal Hill/10 km event will take place February 14th at the Olympics, with the Individual Large Hill/10 km on February 20th and the Team Large Hill/ 4x5 km on February 22nd. You can catch all the action on WEAU and the NBC family of stations.
