LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The Christ Episcopal Church in La Crosse celebrated the 168th anniversary of the first Eucharist service in the Coulee Region this weekend.
As part of the celebration, the church brought in the Most Reverend Bishop Michael Curry to give a sermon.
Bishop Michael Curry recently rose to international notoriety after speaking at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May.
His sermon this weekend focused on love and the goodness of humanity.
“There actually are good people here,” says Bishop Michael Curry. “And the truth is everywhere I go there are really good people. And sometimes the goodness that's in us, that is actually greater than the badness if you will, gets silenced by the loud, by the loud extremes that silence what I call the sensible center.”
The church scheduled Bishop Curry to attend the celebration this weekend well before his appearance at the Royal Wedding, saying he's booked two to three years in advance.
