BLOOMER, Wis. (WEAU)-- A local student is back in Wisconsin after traveling to Denmark to compete at the International Powerlifting Federation Bench World Championships.

Bloomer High School held its graduation ceremony Friday and one of those graduating seniors is Ryan Ratcliff.

Ratcliff started powerlifting about six years ago. He says he started going to different meets where he met world champions, and he told himself one day he would go to worlds.

That goal was achieved last month when he benched 341 pounds at the world championships and earned himself a silver medal.

Ratcliff says if you want to achieve something, you have to put in the work.

"I think that's where I separated myself. I took opportunities, and I just worked as hard as I possibly could and the opportunity arose," Ratcliff said.

Ratcliff plans to play football at the University of Minnesota-Crookston this fall. His ultimate goal is to become a strength and conditioning coach.
