KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- Police in Wisconsin say two men who dropped off a 5-year-old boy at a hospital with a fatal gunshot wound have been arrested.
The child was shot Monday at a home in Kenosha and taken to Froedtert South Hospital. The child's grandfather, Curtis Cannon, told WISN-TV that the men who left the boy at the hospital were his adult sons. Cannon said one of the men accidentally shot the boy.
Police said the men, both 24, were jailed Wednesday pending charges. One was held on suspicion of homicide by negligent handling of a firearm. The other was held on suspicion of leaving a loaded firearm within access of a child.
Kenosha Police Capt. Thomas Hamm said an investigation is ongoing.
KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) --Authorities say a 5-year-old boy died of a gunshot wound after two adults abandoned him at a hospital in southeast Wisconsin.
Police say the shooting happened before 2 p.m. Monday at a home in Kenosha, about 35 miles (55 kilometers) south of Milwaukee.
Staff at the Froedtert South Hospital-Kenosha Campus called authorities after two people dropped the wounded boy off then left. Authorities have not described the relationship between the adults and the child who died.
Curtis Cannon told WITI-TV that the boy was his grandchild and that his sons drove the child to the hospital. He describes the shooting as an accident, but doesn't say how the shooting happened or explain if either of his sons was the child's father.
Police say the investigation is still "very active."
