EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Two incumbents and two challengers squared off Thursday night in a candidate forum for the Eau Claire Area School Board.
The event was at Chippewa Valley Technical College.
Current board members Eric Torres and Aaron Harder were joined by challengers Tim Nordin and Erica Zerr.
Many issues were discussed, including what each candidate thought about how the district needs to keep up with changes in education.
"The classroom is always going to be a mix of external motivations and internal motivations. I want to see ... I would like to see more focus on making sure that we're optimizing those internal motivations in our students," said Aaron Harder.
"We need a school board that really is willing to reach out and grab that grand vision, that we have a chance to put in a place, that's going to affect the community, our students, our families and everyone throughout the Valley going forward," said Tim Nordin.
"We need to find ways to create early pathways for higher education, being in the STEM areas or in the humanities or the arts, as well as interpret numeral and vocational interests," said Eric Torres.
"We have fledgling systems in place in this district, where teachers can bring a good idea forward to the district and implement it, and we need to strengthen those systems," said Erica Zerr.
All four will be on the April 2 ballot. The top three vote-getters will win election to a three-year term.
