CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- The case against a 10-year-old girl, arrested in connection with the death of a six-month-old baby will not be sealed.
At a hearing in Chippewa County court Friday, the judge assigned to the case – who is out of Dunn County – said the public interest in open trials shouldn't be overridden unless there is a provision in the statutes.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice is taking over the case. Due to the seriousness of the offense, the case currently sits in adult court but could later be moved into juvenile court.
A competency hearing is scheduled for January 17th.
