CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- There are currently 196 children in foster care in Chippewa County. That number has quadrupled since 2014.
Now, the community is hoping to raise awareness and establish additional foster homes in the region.
Thursday night, the fashion for foster care fundraiser at the Chippewa Distillery will have a fashion show to represent the foster community.
The event is sold out and ticket sales alone have already reached $4,000. All proceeds will benefit the Chippewa County Foster children and programming.
"We don't have that amount of homes here in Chippewa County so obviously our number one thing we want people to do is to become foster parents that obviously the best way you can help,” said Carly Rubenzer a former foster mom and organizer at the event. “We really need to step up for the kids in our community because obviously they can't."
The volunteers hope to provide more items for the county's deck closet as well as remodel the family interaction room at the county.
