Drone credited for helping find missing Osseo man after Silver Alert issued

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A drone is being credited for locating a missing Osseo man.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice says a Silver Alert was issued Tuesday for the missing man. That’s when the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office requested a drone be brought in to help find the 68-year-old man.

The drone crew searched fields near the missing man’s home and the drone was able to capture thermal imaging of the man walking in the middle of the field.

“Previously, if a person had gone missing in a field or large rural area, many hours and personnel resources would have been used to search the areas,” said Attorney General Brad Schimel. “Thanks to quick thinking by the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office, and DCI’s UAV pilot, law enforcement was able to quickly find this missing individual.”
