EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- One person is injured and forced to leave their home after a fire broke out at a fourplex in Eau Claire.

The Eau Claire Fire Department said it responded to a 1st alarm fire at 4424 Heartland Dr. West just after 10:30 p.m. on Monday. When crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from the garage and roof of the end unit of the fourplex. After entering the unit, crews found a fire in the basement and extinguished it quickly, according to the fire department.

The woman living inside the unit was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and is being assisted by the American Red Cross after being forced to leave.

The damage of the fire was contained to the unit it originated in, but smoke damaged the unit next door. Overall, damage is estimated at $75,000.

The Eau Claire Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
