Eau Claire Co. Board approves money for veterans park

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The Eau Claire County Board approved money to go towards a new veterans park Wednesday night.

By a 25-to-4 vote, the board awarded the Eau Claire County Veterans Tribute Foundation $450,000 dollars to help in the cost of the park, which is to be constructed north of Phoenix Park along Forest Street in the City of Eau Claire.

The total cost is estimated at $1.2 million.

"We're very excited that the county decided to come on board with us. We really do see it as a partnership between the city and the county. It's just really wonderful to see the support that came out of the meeting tonight," said Angela Deutschlander.

The $450,000 will be part of the county's overall budget, which still needs to be approved.

The project is planned to start sometime next year, with completion scheduled for 2022.
