EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- It’s Crossing Guard Appreciation Week and the Eau Claire Police Department is showing their support.

Wednesday, members from AAA and the Eau Claire Police Department traveled around town to thank the 17 full time crossing guards with a certificate, pin, bag of goodies, and a hot chocolate, donated by Kwik Trip, for their dedication.

Officer Bridget Coit with the Eau Claire Police Department says the guards are out there every day regardless of the weather, and their commitment is admirable.

Helen Finch and Jerry Finch, who currently help students from Longfellow Elementary, have been serving for 14 years. Rosanne Hartung, who assists the students from Sam Davey, has been serving for 21 years. There are also numerous other crossing guards who have served for more than 5 and 10 years.

Eau Claire Police are also reminding drivers to slow down in school zones, stay off of your electronics, and remain extra vigilant in our school zones.
