EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Per the Eau Claire Area School District:
As a result of the large number of school cancellations due to inclement weather this school year, the District must schedule make-up days.
The District had already built into the calendar a possible inclement weather make-up day on April 22, which will be utilized.
On Monday evening, February 18, we will propose to the School Board that we schedule make-up days on Friday, February 22; Monday, February 25; and Friday, June 7. School was not originally scheduled for any of these days in the District.
Please note that the School Board will be asked to consider approving the addition of these three days to the school calendar at its February 18 meeting. While school has not officially been scheduled for February 22, February 25, and June 7, we wanted to give you a heads up that these dates could be added to our calendar.
We apologize for the short notice. Our goal is to avoid extending the school year past June 7 by scheduling make-up days as early as we can. From this day forward, should there be additional make up days required, the District would propose utilizing April 19 and May 17.
When we call off classes as often as we have this year, we must ensure we meet the minimum number of instructional hours the State of Wisconsin requires. As an alternative to any of the make-up days listed above, the Board may also consider the following options:
1. Lengthen each school day from March 1 to the end of the year to gradually make up instructional hours.
2. Extend the school year past June 6. If this option is chosen, as of today, students would be in school until June 11. If additional inclement weather days occur, this date would be extended.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility during what has been a challenging past few weeks for our entire School District community.
