EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Many area students are getting ready to start a new school year and one local church sent students off with a special blessing.
The Unitarian Universalist Church in downtown Eau Claire held their annual Labor Day service Sunday morning, focusing on multiple generations.
Students of all ages were asked to bring their backpacks to church today and received a small pin to clip on their backpack.
The pin serves as a reminder of support from the congregation throughout their school year.
"Starting school can be one of the most nerve racking events of a young person’s life,” said Rev. Julianne Lepp minister at Unitarian Universalist Church. “Just like we like we go to nursing homes, we like to support our youngest members as well by giving them a token of our care and support."
This is the third year of the annual Blessing of the Backpacks in Eau Claire, which is part of a nationwide movement of Unitarian Universalist Churches.
