EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- Kids at Roosevelt Elementary left their desks Friday to learn a new lesson in honoring veterans.

A program held at the school Friday featured keynote speaker Andy Wise who was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard for six years.
Wise is now a sergeant for the Eau Claire Police Department. He says its important to talk to kids about the meaning of service.

"It's just cool to see the joy in their eyes that we can see ourselves in them and i think it's our opportunity and our responsibility to teach them. It's an opportunity to talk to the little ones encourage them to serve and teach them the right away," Wise explained.

A "thank you veterans" slide show and armed services medley also took place as part of the event.
