Family Fun Zone offers alcohol-free alternative for Maple Leaf Parade

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Not everything is beer during Oktoberfest, with some local organizations offering alternatives to alcohol.

During the Maple Leaf parade Saturday the Boy Scouts of America and the Gateway Area Council are once again putting on the Family Fun Zone.

The Family Fun Zone, which is located on the west side of Copeland Avenue across from Festival Foods, offers an alcohol and smoke-free environment to watch the parade.

"Certainly kids activities, face painting, a climbing bridge, some other activities, some games. And all in all a great place for people to enjoy the parade and be able to have candy and all the stuff on the boulevard access as well," said Gateway Area Council Development Director Mary Freybler.

The Family Fun Zone is open to the public and all ages are welcome.

Bleachers are provided and people are allowed to bring chairs or blankets to sit on.

The gates will open at 7:30 a.m. and stay open until the Maple Leaf parade is over.
