"Fill the Seats" challenge for Carson Park baseball stadium renovations

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- While the Chippewa Valley waits for local baseball to return, the Carson Park Baseball Stadium Renovation Committee continues to raise money for improvements.

The renovation committee and the City of Eau Claire announced a new challenge called "Fill the Seats."

An anonymous donor is matching up to $50,000 for the renovation fund, doubling the impact of your donation. There's no deadline yet on when the matching money must be raised by.

As an extra incentive, a donation of $500 or more gets you a personalized seat at Carson Park baseball stadium.

The seat can be personalized with your name, the name of a loved one, or the name of a current slugger.

Committee members say it's an opportunity to fill the seats at the stadium, even though baseball is on hold.

"We thought it would be something fun to do this summer, that's why we called it the 'Fill the Seats' campaign, even though we can't fill the seats right now. Get our mind off of all the COVID-19 stuff and think about something fun like the future return of baseball here at Carson Park," said Mark Faanes with the Carson Park Baseball Stadium Renovation Committee.

Renovation plans include replacing the aluminum bleachers and adding climate-controlled restrooms.
