Five people arrested following drug bust in Sparta

SPARTA, Wis. (WEAU) -- Five people are arrested in Sparta after police find meth and drug paraphernalia in their rooms at the Best Nights' Inn.

On March 20th, police officers say they received information on a wanted person.

At the hotel, they located 27-year-old Lucas Horstman and 36-year-old April Nelson, both of La Crosse.

Police say Nelson had warrants for her arrest out of Minnesota.

Officers noticed drug-related items in the room and during a search found 38-year-old Daniel Jones of Sparta hiding in the bathroom. He had nine outstanding warrants.

Jones, Horstman, and Nelson were all arrested.

Then on March 21st, police spoke to guests in another room believed to be connected to the incident from the night before.

Police officers located 33-year-old Shawn Nelson of La Crosse and found 28-year-old Brittany Luke of La Crosse hiding in a bathroom closet.

Officers found multiple drugs and loaded handguns.

Nelson and Luke were arrested.

Three young children were also in the room and placed into the custody of Monroe County Human Services.
