Former WI State Senator Ted Kanavas dies at 56

MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) -- Former State Senator Ted Kanavas has passed away at the age of 56, after a battle with cancer.

Governor Scott Walker released the following statement Monday after learning of the passing of former Wisconsin State Senator Ted Kanavas:

"Ted Kanavas was a great man. He served his district and his state well. It was always a thrill to be around him. Tonette and I send our love and prayers to Mary and his family."

The Republican Party of Wisconsin released the following statement from Chairman Brad Courtney:

"We are heartbroken to hear the news of the passing of Ted Kanavas. Ted was a leader of the conservative movement in our state, spending years in the State Senate dedicated to the service of the people of Wisconsin. Ted was a great friend and we will miss him dearly. Our prayers are with his family during this time."
