Fraud & malicious software suspect appears in court in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (NBC) -- A British cybersecurity researcher who's accused of computer fraud and creating and distributing malicious software appears in federal court.

23-year-old Marcus Hutchins pleaded not guilty Monday in Milwaukee.

Hutchins was arrested earlier in August in Las Vegas on charges he created and distributed a malware program to pilfer banking passwords from unsuspecting computer users.

A trial date is scheduled for October.
