GEEKcon takes over UW-Eau Claire Saturday

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- An event showcasing the community's unique talents, hobbies, and passions took over UW-Eau Claire Saturday.

The second annual GEEKcon celebration kicked off this morning at UWEC's Davies Center. The event highlights anything from Legos to essential oils, music to video games, and Jewlry.

This year’s event was taken on by UWEC's event planning class students say they're hoping to see GEEKcon grow every year.

"We have a lot of new things and we're planning on adding in the future, so hopefully this event planning class will have a good foundation,” says event coordinator Alyssa Addlemann.

“It’s to kind of see what Eau Claire has to offer, so it's not necessarily just exclusive to video gaming or comic books, and all of that stuff. We have knitters here, podcasters here and a man who sculpts little figurines, so it's pretty cool," says Thomas Xiong, another coordinator of the event.

GEEKcon is happening at the Davies Center Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. It’s free to UWEC students and staff and an entrance fee of $5 or two non-perishable food items.
