Gov. Evers stops in La Crosse following budget address

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Governor Tony Evers spent the day touring the state following Thursday night's budget address.

Gov. Evers made a stop at Southern Bluffs Elementary School in La Crosse, visiting the jump rope club.

The stop was the final of four the governor made throughout the state, mainly to share his budget proposal.

A proposal which would include a historic investment for K-12 education, which Evers said is needed to play catch up.

"If we want our kids to get the best education possible we have to invest in that. That's what the people of Wisconsin said during the primary, during the election, and frankly any poll. And so we're following the lead of local people saying if we want good schools we need to have a resource at the appropriate level," said Evers.

The proposal also includes a $600 million dollar increase in special education funding.
