Group looks to delay Little Red Nature Campus proposal for one year

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The group hoping to turn the Little Red School House in Eau Claire into an alternative, innovative place of learning is pushing back its plans.

During Wednesday's Eau Claire Area School District Board of Education meeting, the Initiative for New Directions in Education (INDE) told the board it's not ready to submit a grant application, which is due by March 9.

Now, INDE wants to postpone the application process until early 2019, with a goal of opening in fall 2020.

In December, INDE brought a proposal to the board looking to transform the Little Red School House into the Little Red Nature Campus, which would include a middle school and a nature campus.

The hope is to continue planning for the charter school for the next 12 months.

INDE is asking the board to vote in support of the project at its March 5 meeting.
