EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Eau Claire Fire Rescue was called Sunday to put out a blaze on the city's north side.
This happened just before 4 p.m. in part of a duplex in the 3200 block of Runway Ave. Crews say heavy smoke and flames were coming from a front bedroom window, but they were able to confine the damage to one side of the duplex.
The fire department says damage is estimated at $75,000.
"The fire actually extended into the attic space, so crews on the interior removed all the ceiling and drywall. So, crews on the exterior removed the soffits,” Jaggar said at the scene Sunday. “So, we had the ability to make a clear determination that we had full fire extinguishments."
One person was living in the impacted part of the duplex, but was not home at the time of the fire. One cat died at the scene.
Fire crews are at the scene of a residential fire in the 3200 block of Runway Avenue.
WEAU 13 News has a reporter at the scene. There's currently heavy smoke coming from the residence.
We'll update this story as we get more information once it's confirmed with those at the scene.
