EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- All this month, WEAU and the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation are honoring one educator from each of the 20 schools in the district.
Tonight, we continue our Golden Apple Awards tour throughout the Eau Claire Public schools with a stop at Lakeshore Elementary School.
"This year, goes to our very own Mrs. Kwick for helping out, so how about everyone giving her a round of applause," said Lakeshore Principal Colleen Miner when she presented Special Education Assistant Tricia Kwick with her Golden Apple Award.
Miner says Tricia has a nurturing way about her that draws all students to her, adding that special education aides like Kwick are the unsung heroes of the school.
"Well, no two days are ever the same. I love what I do, I enjoy spending time with the kids, and it's really an honor to be in this position. I work with a variety of students that require and have different needs and require different attention than a typical child,” said Kwick.
"She is one of these rare gems who can help our most struggling students. As a Special Education Assistant she is helping our students who might be struggling learning, who might be struggling with their emotional regulation, sensory needs and she is able to help them be successful in the mainstream classroom,” said Miner.
Kwick and Lakeshore Elementary School will receive a $1,000 grant from the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation and Tricia will be able to use $500 to use in the classroom.
