Little Hats Big Hearts

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- 40,000 babies are born every year in the U.S. with a congenital heart defect. To help raise awareness a nationwide program called Little Hats, Big Hearts began in February 2014 in Chicago, IL.

In its first year the program collected 300 tiny red hats which would be babies with the disease. Now the program has expanded to more than 40 states. Nationwide more than 200,000 red hats have been donated. Its all thanks to creative volunteers knitting and crocheting hats to spread their labor of love.

If you are interested in helping the program, there are six participating hospitals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
