Local food bank receives big grant
Fresh fruits and vegetables will soon be making there way to more families in the Chippewa Valley.
Mayo Clinic Health System has awarded Feed My People $20,000 through a grant program.
The grant will help fund the food bank's produce initiative, which aims to make more fresh produce available to low income residents.
The food bank expects to distribute more than 180,000 pounds of produce during the next 12 weeks.
"We know that a healthy diet that includes fruits and vegetables reduces incidents of chronic disease, and we're really committed that those who are low income have that opportunity to have fruits and vegetables," said Emily Moore, Feed My People executive director.
Produce is expected to start going out this week.
