Local skaters advocate for safe skating spaces

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Local skateboarders were invited to hear about what they can do to get more skate parks built in Eau Claire.

The Eau Claire Skaters Association held an open discussion Sunday night about raising funds for a new skate park in Boyd Park. This has been an effort that's been going on for about five years.

The conversation was open to anyone interested in being an advocate for safe spaces to skate, supportive parents of skaters, and anyone who has a story to tell about the positive impact skateboarding has had on his or her life.

“We really want to let them know how hard we've been working for this,” said Gabe Brummet of the Eau Claire Skaters Association. “We want to hear what they want, how they can maybe help us get to our goal.”

Brummet said the skaters association is approaching its end goal of $75,000.
