EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes made a stop in the Chippewa Valley Saturday as part of a local business event.

Barnes participated in a business and entrepreneurship roundtable at Red's Mercantile in Eau Claire. Roundtable participants in attendance were all recipients of the red letter grant, a program that supports female entrepreneurs in the Chippewa Valley.

Barnes says more can be done to support female business owners in Wisconsin. “Whether its access to capital, whether its help putting together a business proposal, or business plan, we want to be sure that we make a more fare economy," he said.

Barnes says after meeting with local business owners in Eau Claire, he learned that there are a lot of big ideas in smaller cities across Wisconsin. He says it’s important to support small business owners to ensure economic growth in the state.
