EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) Wisconsin's lieutenant governor discussed the area's economic growth during an annual Eau Claire Area Economic Development luncheon.

Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes made remarks at the Florian Gardens Monday afternoon.

The luncheon included members of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Royal Credit Union and Market & Johnson.

Barnes was the keynote speaker and he says in order for communities to thrive there needs to be collaboration among businesses.

Barnes said, “If you don't make sure hardworking people have access to the American dream, or opportunity in general, it will have a devastating impact on the entire economic climate. Our small businesses will continue to suffer and will continue to be dead last in new business start-up growth.”

Mandela says he'll continue to fight for solutions that provide opportunities and fairness for everyone in Wisconsin regardless of age or gender.
